Wow. I realize I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am.
This is a far, far, far cry from the liberalism I knew at colleges in the 1980s where professors were demanding tolerance for dissenting and unpopular views, i.e., their own positions. It certainly appears, from what you wrote, that the children of the 1980s are now a group which, once they gained power, no longer want to tolerate dissent.
Google is a private company and can and should be able to do what it wants.
But it’s also a huge company and its actions merit public discussion.
